7/52 – Negative Space
The Doodle is increasingly fascinated with the morning routine: Potty, shower, towel off, apply lotion, style hair, brush teeth, put on make up and so on. Like most parents of toddlers, we’ve discovered that you can get a lot more accomplished with a toddler in tow if you incorporate them into your routine. Or rather, use a toddler’s love imitation to your advantage to help you get out of bed and out the door in a little over an hour each morning.
She may still not have a lot of hair, but the Doodle has enough that she loves to do something with. To accompany her budding sense of fashion, the Doodle likes to style her hair – spiky like Mama or curly like Mommy. We squirt a little dollop of mousse into her hand and away to work she goes as curly was the winner this morning.
My heart melts a little when she wants to look like either one of us.
Start with a lot of mousse and work it all around.
Then she pauses for a moment to catch her reflection and smiles. (The baby in the mirror smiles back).

Getting the curls just so requires some very serious concentration.
See, the Doodle’s hair is curly. Still hoping it will be curly, curly like mommy’s. We’re going to need more hair before we can make that final call.
If only I could go back and take this photo again. I would have ensured that the mirror was clean. I mean, it looked clean to the naked eye. It wasn’t till I was editing photos that it became quite evident that a certain toddler had been on the counter with her face and hands smashed against the mirror again.
And here’s a better example of negative space photography. I like this photo, just not as much as the others.

Oh, precocious Doodle! You are an independent little thing, aren’t you?
Juju loves to put on lotion too, but you have to watch her or she’ll try to lick it–eww.
I figure when the Doodle eats the cocoa butter it’s partly plant based so it’s on the very loose side of okay
It’s when she digs into the vaseline that I’m totally grossed out.
